Chapter 1: New Beginnings
The pulse of a dark heartbeat echoed in the air. The howls of the harsh wind seemed to linger around the dark corridor. Step by step you could feel the heartbeat pulse threw your own body. Door by door you see them pass, but the end of the corridor is the most ominous. The heartbeat is behind it, you now it. You hear a voice behind you, “Do you wish to travel forward?”
Daniel closed the book and looked out the bus window. The latest Skin Crawlers: Legend of the Mummy's Eye didn't attract his attention today. He sighed as he tucked it back into his book bag again. The hour ride from home to school was a boring one, public transportation was the only highlight of the day. The merge of young and old, semi-rich and semi-poor was interesting. Though he could be driven to work by his step father, he didn't want to bother Eric during any part of the day. Though he did raise Daniel it somehow felt like an obligation over a choice of freewill. His stop was coming up next, quickly packing up his loose papers and books he zipped up his coat as well against the harsh October winds. Of late things had been getting a little weird. Daniel attended Bishop Loughlin Memorial High school, a prestige and blue blood kind of place. It was one of the best schools around, but in truth it was no different from the other high strung catholic schools of America.
Daniel set his grim aspect aside as he walked off the stairs of the bus and onto the cement sidewalk. Children young and a bit old lined up everywhere waiting for the doors to open to let them into the semi-warm building. Buzzing conversation held to a speedy halt as Daniel came into the clearing. Eyes leered at him from behind book bags and friends. Others were just staring as if he were an animal at the zoo. They all had a right to Daniel reminded himself. After all he almost killed a teacher last week.
Till next week, Hope you all enjoy and let me hear your comments! :-)
